I'm a freelance writer, teacher and water steward. I focus on solutions to climate change, interesting science and how to conserve and reuse water (I’ve published two books on this topic).

I co-founded Greywater Action, where I develop and teach classes on water reuse, rainwater catchment and waterless toilets. I also work to improve codes and regulations so these sustainable practices are legal and affordable for the average person.

My article, For a better brick, just add poop, won the Gold Award in Children’s Science News from the AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards (2023) and I was named Water Champion by the Silicon Valley Water Conservation Awards (2014).

In my past life I was an elementary school teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area and a technician for a solar energy company. I studied environmental science in college and have a master’s degree in education.

I live in Oregon with my family and enjoy gardening, raising goats, hiking and reading. I strive for peace and a just transition away from fossil fuels so my children and future generations may inherit a more beautiful, safe and healthy planet.
